"Void" is the second chapter of the「Kyoto Harmony」series. In this photography project, I aim to visually interpret the historical and atmospheric essence of Kyoto, Japan, through the five fundamental elements of Buddhist culture: wind, fire, water, earth and void.
The “Void” chapter explores the vacant spaces within Kyoto’s crowded, narrow streets — plots left unused or only partially utilized for various reasons. They may appear as empty lots, temporary parking spaces, construction sites, or overgrown ruins.
These spaces serve as brief "breathing windows" amid the city's dense streetscape, and also offering a glimpse into the constrained living conditions of Kyoto’s normal residents.
