This is a street photography project based in Paris.
Paris is a city of magic. During my year living there, I often found myself feeling a momentary sense of "strangeness"—a fleeting disorientation that made me pause and wonder: Where am I? What era is this? Paris, it seems, is like a vast folded space, where elements of different eras, cultures, and geographies are compressed together and scattered randomly across its streets. Turning a corner feels like stepping through a wormhole to another end of the universe.
For this project, I chose Polaroid as my medium, mainly because of its unique ability to blur time and space. What’s even more fascinating is how an “instant” imaging device like Polaroid can paradoxically heighten the sense of unreality in its captures.
Over the past year, I’ve worked through more than 120 packs of Polaroid film, producing close to 1,000 images. From these, I selected 50 photographs and arranged them into what became「A Piece of Strange」.
